Introducing a .dll.so loader would really release a lot of the constraints Wine currently tries to fit in and solve the -image-base problem at the same time. And as far as I can see it can be done in a portable way. It would handle .dll.so completely and the system loader would never know about them. Normal .so libraries can be handled through dlopen/dlsym.
