I believe this issue is resolved, I haven't tested in a while - but on 1.5.8 on Ubuntu 11.10 w/ PulseAudio I'm not seeing this issue with Fallout: New Vegas anymore. I would suspect that the recent quartz changes are responsible, but I haven't tried to start a new game in a considerably long time.
