I installed Directx 9.0c and set the Options.ini file to use windowed mode with 800x600 1 resolution and that didn't fix this. I have seen others with the same concern in the Wine forum and in at least two other forums related to Ubuntu. This was my third attempt at installing The Sims 3 on this system having used Wine, Winetricks and Playonlinux. My system is a Acer Aspire Timeline X laptop 4820T-7633.
