What is « only native d3dx9_36/d3dx9_28 and xact_jun2010 were installed » ? I did not install anything else than wine and game in order to play. Are these packages corresponding to your distro for wine ? The game needs native d3dx9_36 (or d3dx9_28) because of: ... fixme:d3dx:D3DXCreateEffectEx (0x13ca40, 0x360000, 3247, (nil), (nil), (nil), 0, (nil), 0x33f074, 0x33f07c): semi-stub fixme:d3dx:d3dx9_base_effect_init HLSL ascii effects not supported, yet fixme:d3dx:d3dx9_base_effect_get_desc partial stub! ...
Just to double check that we speak about the same thing, I've attached 2 screenshots to this bug. Can you please confirm that what you see does match with attachment named « Splash screen (just before game starts) » ? There's no launcher in the Steam version, only the splash screen is present.
