It happens with my soundcard as well (not sure what it is - integrated intel chip of some sort). When set to hardware mode sound, some sounds don't play in the game. That is, I fire my rifle, and I hear the bullet ricochet, but the actual sound of the shot doesn't play. Or you can hear the grass rustle, but not the tank in front of you.
