and thanks for the quick reply! Your solution works, but GetFileDialog95A needs
to be modified in the same way. I wasn't sure if it's preferable to do this
earlier and don't allocate and free memory immediately, or duplicate the code
in two places.

I should have clarified that both ANSI and Unicode versions of GetOpenFileName
should expand env. variables.
