The patch fixes the problem in Empire Earth, thank you. 
Also works for Cossacks: European Wars which shows a similar issue since
4573910acc.

There may be other cases where commit 4573910acc causes a problem when a
virtual desktop is used and your fix doesn't work, but I suspect they need a
separate bug report (after this MR was merged in).
