Can you try both demo and retail game with a native msvcrt dll put in your
.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 folder (if you have a windows license
obviously)?

Don't forget to launch the game from its own folder with the command:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcrt=n" wine xxx.exe
