It allows to connect to third-party IM networks (i.e. Yahoo!, AOL) and also acts as a client for a private corporate IM network managed by it own server software. It's licence is propietary. The installer works 100% ok. I have no issues to report on that. However, whentrying to launch the program issuing $ wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Instan-t/Instant.exe ...it won't ever draw a single window.
