it's got a  ok/fail  return value, so if it's not implemented, it should be a
no-op FIXME thingy, returning a fail value.

or is it actually implemented, and just crashes?!?

OS.. up-to-date Lubuntu x86-64 running in a Virtual Box v5.1.20 VM.
