Oooo - I found my old installer for the 10.5 demo. It turned out that my theory was totally bogus; however, I do believe I've tracked down the problem. It appears that when a dialog is created with an owner that that owner should receive the focus when the dialog closes <even if the owner is disabled> (normally disabled windows do not receive focus).
