background not refreshed

Yes, the application starts fine now. 

There`s still an issue here that the background is not refreshed when I
minimize the virtual desktop and maximize it again (see screenshot) but that
could be due to the fact I had to run with LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 to see text
anyway. 
With a decent recent GPU it might work fine. 

Anyway, the initial issue is fixed.
