Hmm.

wine a.exe 
1920x1080  1920x1044

setting virtual desktop 800x600

wine a.exe 
800x600  800x600

Same results remoing "Allow the window manager to control the windows" at
virtual desktop

Conclusion?

wine 2.0-git.
