The package installed fine in the sense that all the files are there on the
system.  What you have is a runtime problem.

My first suspicion is cruft left over from old installs...Do you think you
could put 10.10 (or 10.04) on a USB stick, boot from that, and install Wine
there to retest? 

If that works then you may just want to backup and reinstall.
