They actually might. As example S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl US version
has no copy protection and runs as-is. Russian and I think world versions have
copy protection and don't work on Wine as-is.

However this does not warrant separate versions in AppDB. It will be too
confusing and will bloat already huge list of applications.
