[Bug 2022] Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 demo can not be launched

demo log with wine 1.1.31

After installing the game I run again the install program from the CD and click
on the demo link. The program tells it is performing an temporary install but
nothing happens then. I can quit the install program with the usual quit
button.
