...and the VDO Player installation simply hammers the hard drive continuously for some reason so the installation never gets chance to finish.
You need to be patient and it will finish. It probably search for something through the mounted drives (actually i missed removing z:). For me it took about 1min and i got exactly the same results as in comment 0.
