The game starts up, changes the resolution and then crashes. Slowing down the execution (for example by using strace or WINEDEBUG=all) reveals, that a small window with three buttons on the bottom, one of which being "Start Game", appears for a very brief moment before it closes again and the game switches to fullscreen mode.
