Further playing:  Switching windows then back ([Alt]+[Tab], [Alt]+[Tab]) also
restores focus.  [Alt]+[Tab], [Esc] does not.  It may be as simple as the main
window having focus stolen from it (possibly by the aforementioned
sketchup_webhelper.exe error popup window (which I always leave open as it
seems to do no harm but will just return almost as soon as cancelled).

Any help very gratefully received.  Bit of a noob, obvs.
