I think I misunderstood you before. The problem is legal/availability issues of
S3TC, correct? I don't understand the underlying technology very much, but am I
right in saying that S3TC is required for DXTC hardware support? If so, would
it be possible (as in, legally) to implement a DXTC converter in software?
