Indeed, I'd agree with Andrew's assessment.  Here's the suspect part of the
log:
err:ole:CoCreateInstance apartment not initialised
err:msi:custom_get_thread_return Invalid Return Code -2147221008

-2147221008 is CO_E_NOTINITIALIZED.  If you revert the patch in bug 18070, does
it work?
