As attested in bug 6534, though, this worked in 0.9.17 - I'm in the middle of a
git bisect now, the breaking change is between
80cff47c876c85f761d169f05ef712bb1200bb36 and
b0eb9d0b8990e13b5744d4bfd9ed286c438d987e.
