Basically, two different items: - printf (and al.) don't handle correctly cases where source and destination strings potentially overlap - the perl lib plays trick in our back by changing the internal fdesc structure (which luckily is compatible with native layout), and we're not quite ready to it the attached patch tackles those issues but when running the program here (without fds installed), I get a different perl error than yours. would you mind testing the patch and post the outcome ?
