I'm not against that but the newer kernel with the correct user driver is enough to solve the original issue about joysticks being mapped to the same slot?
That was an earlier problem with the driver that got fixed. See: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39891#c5 The title of this bug is maybe not entirely accurate anymore.
