Probably en_US.UTF-8. No, wine takes it from your environment (use locale or echo $LANG).
I've seen a similar issue where a game wouldn't install, because the locale was C/POSIX, which doesn't support that character.
Is there a download of this around?

I have not yet gotten the program to function on the Mac yet. Closest I have gotten is via PlayInMac, where the game loads but then the main menu is screwed up and there are no buttons to click on. Wine itself via bash seems to die with a GLX exception.
