These should be two separate bugs, though the first is probably bug 21973. For the second, can you upload a save game at the point where you get that dialog, if this is still a problem in 1.2-rc7? Thanks.
Actually, for the dialog problem, it seems to be a game bug, that if sound is disabled, you can't move past any dialogs.
