[Bug 9320] No applications inside virtual desktop get properly focused and activated

Things seem to work fine here when the virtual desktop is unfocused. The active
titlebar still looks active (if it did to begin with, but that's another bug),
and keyboard input goes there when the virtual desktop is focused again.
