Sorry my first attempt was corrupted by an already installed directx version. 

So can you try the following (at least with the demo version):
remove your .wine folder
wine notepad.exe
if you have a windows license, put a native dplayx dll in your
.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 folder
regsvr32 dplayx.dll
wine fifawin.exe 

That should work.
