Turns out there's something else wrong with the URL in comment 1, whatever that may be. http://gmail.com forwards to a https login and this bug reappears. Tested with 1.3.16 again just to make sure. Same is true of IE6 and IE7. Firefox doesn't pick up any details when "automatically detect" is selected, but this may be a separate problem.
