It made me decide to get involved instead of just waiting for someone else to deal with it. You might still want to hang on to that card in a drawer because, as Stefan put it, the Mesa ATI drivers have been undergoing significant development. I would also expect that the D3D->OpenGL translation layer in Wine is going to extract a significant performance penalty with NVidia blobs as well.
