Is this because the glitches are only visible in a few levels, or because the
demo is an older or newer version of the game than the one you run?

In the former case, can you attach a +ddraw log? In any case try to install
game updates, if any. To my knowledge Windows doesn't support range color keys
either, but maybe that was because I made a mistake when testing this a while
ago (I think I didn't set DDCKEY_COLORSPACE).
