It worked after installing Wine version 1.2-rc7. It still has a few minor problems on start and exit, but the game is running fast and in some aspects even better than under Windows XP. The famous Windows XP bug that causes the game to crash after selecting the skill level when starting a new game is not present under Wine. I also suspect the Alwarren bug is gone too since it is similar. Great work! I am going to post some notes on the AppDB now to save other people the trouble.
