Well, the linker (ld, dyld), assembler (as), otool etc. are available as source from http://www.opensource.apple.com/ after all, in package cctools: XCode version cctools xc2.5 622.9 cctools xc3.0+OS10.5 667.3 cctools xc3.1.3 698.1
Wrong package. The package you want is the ld64 package. THAT is the Xcode 3.x linker, and THAT's the one with the linker bug. (Actually, it's available under Xcode 2.x as well, but it only became the default linker in Xcode 3.0.
