I wasn't able to download it from download.com - the download was being interrupted over and over again. I've fetched it from http://downloads.gamezone.com/demos/d3282.htm The setup utility behaves similarly - wine quits on entering Audio tab with ALSA/OSS sound enabled. I have turned off the sound in winecfg, enabled the sound in the Red Faction's setup application and turned it back on in winecfg. After these operation ingame sound works fine.
