To try to fix up my last statement, after the 5th identical attempt, I was able
to get the game to launch using wine 1.1.9 without any patches or modifications
at all, by forcing winhttp to native windows dll: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n"
wine warpatch.bin
