[Bug 16406] Command & Conquer Renegade is unplayably slow

It does appear to be a fair bit slower than with eg. 1.1.8, so this is probably
a regression. Would you mind doing a regression test? (I can do that myself as
well, but it'll probably take longer for me to get around to it.)
