After hacking around that, I get this error:
CLR: Managed code called FailFast, saying "mscorlib.resources couldn't be
found!  Large parts of the BCL won't work!"

That's actually thrown by Mono code in referencesource. If I hack that out, I
run into problems with the marshaling hack.
