Does reverting 6e6a0e2a2c3df15f8f62216227e3f6f454ba7e65 fix the hang?

It looks like 6e6a0e2a2c3df15f8f62216227e3f6f454ba7e65 is related to
b266fcaa66f89c08c056371f7b81b7faadea9a98 which in turn is a different
fix for the regression caused by 9ac7bca209e1b11af898d1b393d13c8dc92c66e1.
Probably it's worth to test whether it's a regression.
