[Bug 52701] virtual desktop worked in previous wine versions, not in wine 7.4 (Staging)

A possibly useful clue is that wine 7.4 (Staging) virtual desktop works to
remove the occluding black box in 3D view for Battle of Britain, a flight sim
that shares much the same code base as Mig Alley.
