If it is caused by missing DXTn support the following patches should help:

After applying the patches run "autoreconf -f", and make sure that ./configure is able to find the 32-bit library for libtxc_dxtn.
Does that fix the issue?
I tried the patches with Dragon Age: Origins. The preview for the saved games is still not displayed correctly, but it's not completely black as before: the screenshot from comment #11 shows what it looks like now. This line appears in the terminal when a saved game is created:
