[Bug 9771] Steam Friends doesn't work (fails to render correctly or refresh)

Ok, have been playing around. Messages work for about 10 sec. 

In wine 1.1.12, open Steam quickly, open Friends, and send something. You will
see it. If you type quickly you can send 3 o 4 more messages, then something
just gets crashed, friends freezes for a sec, and then you can't send
messages...
