[Bug 11602] New: Planetside preformance issues at high population / complex scenes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11602 Summary: Planetside preformance issues at high population / complex scenes. Product: WineHQ Bugzilla Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: bugzilla-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: ellis(a)ellisdesign.org I think this is true for most D3D games and applications. While rendering complex scenes performance drops quite bad. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

What hardware? What drivers? Any changes from default Wine configuration? What programs? What exact performance difference between Wine and windows? Use +fps channel on Wine and fraps on windows. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11602 --- Comment #2 from Erik Ellis <ellis(a)ellisdesign.org> 2008-02-16 18:52:53 --- As of a side by side comparison.. i cant do that, basically what i'm going on is my years of addiction to the game when i was using windows. When i was runing windows i had about 70fps at low populated areas, and about 40-50fps at high populated areas. In wine, i get about 110fps at low populated areas (yes, its better), but about 10-20fps at high populated areas. Sorry i cant give a good comparison. But i could log the default channels and attach here. It might give some insight into what planetside is actually doing. About the "I think this is true for most D3D games and applications". When i run a completely different game (Mafia in this case). I get about 20-30 fps at dense areas, but when i run it in Cedega (dont know how accepted it is to compare to an evil brother), it runs at a solid 40fps in the same areas. My assumptions might be far away from the truth, but i thing Cedega is taking advantage of some nifty ARB extensions, something i think wine isn't doing (as much as it could). But as i said, this is just my assumptions and thats what im leaving it at. Was hoping the VBO additions to .55 would stabilize the performance. But theres no apparent changes to the performance. My Setup: Intel P4 "Prescott" 3.0ghz 1.5gb RAM nVidia GeForce 7600 GS (nVidia 169.09 drivers) Un-Modified self-compiled wine .55 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

If you can't do side-by-side what are the numbers you specifying? And should we trust those numbers at all? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11602 --- Comment #4 from Erik Ellis <ellis(a)ellisdesign.org> 2008-02-17 06:00:47 --- True, one cant take my numbers to an 100% ontill i can get a proper comparison. I'll try and create a Planetside only windows xp installation in a day or two and do a proper comparison. btw, how do i switch off GLSL? cuz i was trying that before, but noticed no diff in either performance or look, and i know planetside uses Cg shaders, compiled into d3d programs. (As a side note about Cg shaders, could one not force Cg to compile shaders into gl shaders instead of d3d shaders and then convert into gl, just a thought) PS. ill check out Mafia also (for complete sake). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
