Any attempt to install an application prints these errors on the console: err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} could be created for context 0x1 and then Steam exits with error code 1. I duplicated this trivially by moving my .wine directory away, installing a fresh instance of Steam, and attempting to install any already-purchased game. It immediately generated the same error. Can you try with a demo? I just tried wisotool with a clean ~/.wine as well, and it appears to be the same error. At least, it's not crashing now.
