[Bug 29027] New: Mozilla Thunderbird 7.0.1 leaves gray areas on screen when opening and closing menus
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29027 Bug #: 29027 Summary: Mozilla Thunderbird 7.0.1 leaves gray areas on screen when opening and closing menus Product: Wine Version: 1.3.32 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: alexhenrie24(a)gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Created attachment 37377 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=37377 Screenshot Mozilla Thunderbird 7.0.1 leaves gray areas on the screen when opening and closing menus. Some are translucent, some are solid gray. The gray areas go away when the controls they are covering are redrawn. Interestingly, the gray areas can actually leave the bounds of the window itself, as shown in the attached screenshot. When I set Wine to emulate a virtual desktop, the problem goes away. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29027 --- Comment #1 from Alex Henrie <alexhenrie24(a)gmail.com> 2011-11-09 11:44:51 CST --- Created attachment 37399 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=37399 Firefox cutting holes in gedit with Metacity The problem happens with every version of Thunderbird from 1.0 to the current 8.0, as well as Firefox. It happens with every version of Wine I tried from 0.9 to the present. I did not test versions of Wine older than 0.9. The problem does not occur if I run Firefox or Thunderbird without a window manager: /etc/init.d/gdm stop xinit wine thunderbird.exe If I change my window manager to Metacity ("metacity --replace &") then instead of leaving gray areas on the screen, a slightly different but related bug occurs. First position Firefox (or Thunderbird) over another window and click a few menus. Then move Firefox off the second window, let go, and start clicking the menus. Rectangular holes corresponding to the menus clicked when Firefox was covering the window will be cut in the window that it used to cover, allowing the desktop background to show through. With Metacity, enabling composting effects via "gconf-editor /apps/metacity/general" makes the problem go away. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Wine can't cause painting issues in other X11 apps. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The problem could not be reproduced on a computer using the nouveu Nvidia driver, however it could be reproduced on two different computers using the i915 Intel driver. Since this is probably a bug in the i915 driver, I've sent the i915 developers a message: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2011-November/013306.html -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
