All other features of Stem overlay work, and this is just a minor inconvenience. This bug does not occur for me any more after opting in to the steam beta today (since regular steam wouldn't connect anyway).
Confirming this I also opted into the beta today and this bug seems to be fixed. Does this still occur in Wine 1.7.11 or later?
If so then this bug report still needs console logs.
