This should be an easy fix since another open source project did the work for you. I hadn't heard of HX before. Its winmm.dll is written in 2500 lines of assembler, and is pretty skeletal. It's also not obvious what error you're talking about, or how HX fixes it. Can you try Wizardry Gold on plain old wine-0.9.54 and attach the error log? It doesn't look like Wizardry Gold is available for free legally; it's online at http://www.classic-gaming.net/game/646/ and probably on ebay. What kind of bug is that?
I replaced wine-0.9.54's winmm.dll with HX DOS Extender's version of the file and I can now play Wizardry Gold which was impossible with wine before. This should be an easy fix since another open source project did the work for you.

I never heard of HX DOS Extender myself until yesterday which creates a minimal win32 enviornment in DOS. I decided to try out to try copying their DLLs to Wine's windows/systems folder with this shocking effect.
