If your wine package is doing that font download, please file a bug with your linux distribution
so you're saying that wine doesnt require those fonts? I think even if its not a technical fault with wine... it still is a wine problem (and other parties problems also, every ones problem actually), because if wine isn't installing correctly and efficiently, then users are being deprived. If nothing else, then we are being deprived of a good experience. If I want bugs and problems I should stick with Windows, no? Ubuntu's philosophy is to make an Operating system for everyone, that's easy to use and works well... i believe in that. If your distro chooses to install fonts with wine, and does so in a way that doesn't work well for you, you should file a bug with them.
