[Bug 25559] New: wine server uses too much cpu with spore and kernel 2.6.32-26-generic (ubuntu lucid)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25559 Summary: wine server uses too much cpu with spore and kernel 2.6.32-26-generic (ubuntu lucid) Product: Wine Version: 1.2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wineserver AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: thevladsoft(a)gmail.com As it says, wine server uses a lot of cpu starting the game spore, within 30% and 40%, using the kernel 2.6.32-26-generic on ubuntu. In my computer (an old semprom 2600+, single core of course), this mean the game never starts. If I start ubuntu with a previous kernel, 2.6.32-25-generic, it starts normally, and wineserver uses very little. I find out because that was the only think that changed since when the game ran and the moment it stopped functioning. Not grave, but annoying. Worst think is that its the only one failing (that I noticed, some times games and windows programs are crappy just because :) ). Also, the game has this exit when it fails starting: "fixme:thread:SetThreadIdealProcessor (0x70): stub fixme:thread:SetThreadIdealProcessor (0x78): stub" sporeapp.exe will use +60% of cpu and wineserver +30% cpu, as stated. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

You could try a regression test for kernel to find out a cause, if it's really where a 'problem' is. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

What do you mean "In my computer (an old semprom 2600+, single core of course), this mean the game never starts" ? That doesn't seem to follow.
That perhaps in a faster cpu (or a multicore one) it could start. I am unable to test. however you are right that it is not the point of the bug if the game start or not, but the high cpu usage. As for the other commentary, I tried wine 1.3.9, build in my computer (not from repositories) and the result is the same. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

???? why? The game does not run the fail happens with certain kernel, that in ubuntu lucid is the latest you dont even let others say if it happens to them or if this happens on newer kernels -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Why does it mean that? If you're not satisfied with new kernel behaviour report that to distribution maintainers. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Closing.

This bug was about the game using too much CPU.
I never said the app, but wineserver is using more cpu with the new kernels, which makes you think it is a problem of wineserver (falling in an infinite loop or I dont know what else, I am not debuging it). But hey, I am tired and your last commentary was the first one clear enough to be made by some one asking for a more clear description. So I must comply. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
