http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19433 Summary: Command & Conquer Generals network fails mid-game (mismatch in synchronization data) Product: Wine Version: 1.1.25 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: kakuremura(a)gmail.com Using the workaround mentioned in bug 17737, multiplayer still fails. You can connect, you can start the game and you can play for a while, but after the first contact with the enemy (after a few kills) a message pops up "mismatch in synchronization data". -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19433 --- Comment #1 from Henri Verbeet <hverbeet(a)gmail.com> 2009-07-24 04:03:41 --- Hi. What kind of platforms are the different hosts running on? I fixed something like this in 71aa14af993dd065b1882675fb9f01af44ed232a, but wouldn't be completely surprised if there are still some similar issues. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to get a chance to look into it, but it looks like the only other math functions ZH uses are pow() and fmod(). So, if I had to guess then I'd say it's probably an edge case with pow(). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I have done several tests. Multiplayer game was played till the end - conditions: 2 PCs (no matter if Linux/Wine + Win or Linux+Linux), the same network (via wifi, delay max 4ms) The game failed if it was on bigger distance (12ms, 4 routers, 3x 5GHz conns and LAN game tunneled via internet, 80ms). Can I help with it? https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19433 --- Comment #7 from Goliash <goliash(a)volny.cz> --- I tested it a month or two ago. I was able to play a game for more then a half hour on greater distance as I mentioned in my previous post (12ms, 4 routers, 3x 5GHz connections). Then it failed on the mismatch (game was about to end) but it used to happen on Windows too from time to time. Testing machines were running Kubuntu 14.04, not sure about wine versions. One had probably installed Wine from PPA (1.7), the second one probably distro repo version (1.6). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Agree with that. The sync error issue appears on Windows as well at random times: could be soon after start or after 1h playing. I would consider closing this report since not wine-only issue. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. This is to say that's normal behavior when playing with players and AI. When only playing with humans and who aren't cheating (memhacks or anything out of the ordinary) it should not desync. I haven't noticed any sync issues up to wine-5.7 -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

A _lot_ of msvcr* has been rewritten in the past ten years, so it would not surprise me if we have fixed whatever this was. It definitely didn't work when I tested before though, what was your test configuration (see below)? 2012 Status: Windows <-> Windows = Working† Linux <-> Linux = Working† Linux <-> Windows = Broken † Within the bounds of the game being buggy. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19433 --- Comment #15 from maudrid(a)gmail.com --- For various reasons the closest version I could test with was this one: $ wine --version wine-7.0-rc5 (Staging) The problem still persists. In fact the following happened: Hosted a game. Another player joined (using windows 7). Started the game and after it loaded, before it showed the game interface, the game crashed (on linux). Then repeated the exact same process and this time the game started. About 1 min later, it desynchronized. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19433 --- Comment #17 from maudrid(a)gmail.com --- I'm not able to get the game to launch. But I think it's something I'm doing wrong, just don't know what it is. It shows the splash screen then: Runtime error! Program Z:\games\CNC\game.dat abnormal program termination. Press OK to exit the program.... I'm using the same wine prefix as when it was working. $ wine --version wine-7.0-rc5 Is there a Proton version that uses "wine-7.0-rc5" I think I will be able to get that working. I can just add it to Steam/compatibilitytools.d and let Steam handle the rest. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I've seen this a number of times and the problem has been that the game requires an Options.ini to be found in the My Documents/Command\ and\ Conquer\ Generals\ Data/ folder. At installation, a skeleton file is provided so the game can start, and then after you configure, it will contain your new options. At some recent point, Wine has updated its directory structure to rename the `My Documents' folder to `Documents'. An older installation of the game will no longer find the required Options.ini. If you symlink `My Documents' to `Documents' in the drive_c/user area the game should launch. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19433 --- Comment #19 from exposight <exposight(a)gmail.com> --- Have to confirm this still happens, and in exactly same way: contact an enemy players, and in a few seconds there is the mismatch popup. Verified on the very same installation on Windows: with two players and two bots, we played until the end. If there is a Linux machine in the game on the same map and same game setup, then the mismatch happens as soon as there is a first fight. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
