They then crash with the trace reporting a C++ exception and this reason at the top of the trace GetFirmwareEnvironmentVariableW+0x143() Backtrace attached is from launching Word. Also, you could test this patch, it just returns success in the mentioned function. Same behaviour. I also patched with your patch @Gijs and no change in the run behaviour, same crash and reported error. Hi, I had a( look at your crashlog and this doesn't look right: 007b:err:module:import_dll Library C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Client\AppVIsvSubsystems32.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\root\\vfs\\ProgramFilesCommonX86\\Microsoft Shared\\DW\\DW20.EXE") not found Could you manually copy that dll into the right place, and see if it changes anything? (AFAICT (but that`s my amateuranalysis) the installer fails to put some dlls into the right place because of CreateHardLinkA/W being a stub; this is what I saw for Office365, but I guess Office16 suffers from same problems; but beware this is a guess of me and not something I found throuhg thorough dbgug analysis.....) -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Copied the AppVIsvSubsystems32.dll from drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Office/root/mcxml to /home/nick/.msoffice/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Office/root/Client and no change. I did also rebuild the version with the patch again just in case I messed something up there and I did get slightly different results. The app still crashes before loading the main word screen though.
